NOT many people have heard of Joss Stone so we, at the Dover Soul group of websites have decided to introduce her to her home district!

Joss, real name Joscelyn Eve Stoker was born in Buckland Hospital on April 11th 1987 and went to St Mary's Primary School. At the age of six she moved to Devon and a couple of years ago she was signed by an agent straight away when she performed on the BBC talent show, Star for a Night at the age of 14!

Contemplating Joscelyn's future career her and her mum, Wendy invented her name as Joss Stone to make it more catchier and sultrier. Wendy, Joss' mother is also involved in her daily work and organising her shows and performances as she is her manager.

Her music style is very different to that of conventional pop artists of which she is not. She has already been compared to Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin at the age of 16!

She has a real inner talent and her vocals show that with her album "Soul Sessions" she has a wide and varied fan following including Elton John whose party she appeared at this week (March 2004).

It is surprising to know Joss is from Dover as you expect a true soul singer to be American born and bred. This is perhaps why she is more famous in the USA than she is in her own UK. She has just bought her brilliant singing style to her home shores and it is even appearing on local radio around her home town and national stations pushing the album into the top 20 album chart.

We look very forward to hear some of Joss' new material as her first single which can be heard on local radio is an excellent piece of soul music that makes a change to pop music 24 hours a day. It's the 2000's and Joss has contributed to music in a big way producing soulful sounds for the future of music.
