Meet a bunch of down-to-earth lads who just want to make music.
Not too long ago five funsters from Folkestone had a dream...having grown increasingly disenchanted
with the music scene the five dreamers settled down to putting the wrongs to right. Drawing influences from the biggest and
best they developed a stokin' sound, a sound to blow their rivals out of the water, delivered in fierce fashion with a naked
love for music.
So who are paradox?
Paradox are made up of the following:
Iain - Lead vocals
- Born in October of 1973, Iain is one of the original co founders of the band. His musical influences include Nirvana, the
Sex Pistols and REM. All of these can be heard in his own unique vocal talents.
Phil - Guitar -
Phil is the other founder of the band, born in September 74, Phil pulls his musical tastes from Dire Straits, Nirvana and
the Sex Pistols. He taught himself to play by strumming along to Nirvana's unplugged CD.
Rich - Bass and backup
vocals - Rich joined the band in 2002 and brought his own unique style into the sound. He has been playing bass since the
age of fourteen and he and Phil used to have their own band together years ago. Musical influences include Pink Floyd, The
Who and Led Zeppelin.
Woody - Drums - Woody only joined the band this year, but slid into the role as though it was made for him. Manic Street Preachers
and Nirvana are among a few of his favourite groups.
A Look At 'Indie Artists'
Paradox are, although not duly credited enough, one of the greatest purely independent
rock bands to come out of the UK in the past 10 years. The guys write and compose their own music, record; mix; produce;
and market every one of the albums they've put out, basically all on their own. Paradox is a credit to the 'do-it-yourself'
DIY community. Most people don't realize the work and dedication it takes to be an independent artist. Imagine being a
creator, producer, distributor, promoter, and 'customer relater', all in one day-24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for as long
as it takes to share your passion with others of like mind. It's that same passion and dedication that give Indie music
it's following, though. You the consumer are more likely to relate and have respect for bands like Paradox, all the
time doing what fans do best- listening to and talking about the MUSIC! So we know that bands that aren't molded out
and transformed into what the major record companies THINK the fans want, are likelier to succeed in a stronger market.
They will not be told what to say, how to say
it and to whom. Paradox and bands comparable to them, stay with fans for a longer time then that of a 'one hit wonder' or
'pop sensation'. If you can't name more than 10 songs off the Top 40 Charts, are NOT a member of BMG and your CD collection
is more than eclectic- you might be an 'Indie-head'. A supporter and admirer of the band that plays down at the local pub,
your brother's wife's cousin and his Thrash Metal group, or the one man acoustic show that has a spot on local AM radio every
Sunday morning. So I tell you to be proud and keep heart in supporting the independent music community, we're all better
for it in the long run.

Leas Hall Review, written by K. Eley
****************************************************************************
As you all know Saturday 26th
June the band played the Leas Cliff Hall™ in Folkestone. What can I say, except that they were billed as first supporting
act but had the biggest audience of the night! I was privileged enough to spend the entire day with the band apart from the
two hours I had to take out to go pick up a couple of fans. We met at midday in a little cafe in Dover, the guys having bought
their families down to eat and share a good laugh and joke before the serious business of the day. I came in late but was
greeted with a cheer as I walked through the door. After a short while the guys moved off to pick up their gear from home
and make their way to Folkestone. I headed out with Phil and the others all turned up eventually, with Ritchie being
fashionably late...actually he was so late we ended up meeting him at the Leas™! Apparently this is normal behaviour!
Rob, who was there at Leas not only to see
Paradox, but to help supervise the filming of the event, arrived once we got there and unloaded. He is in the process of editing
all the tapes together to make a DVD for the band so keep your eyes open for that, you will hear more about it here as soon
as its available! The second supporting act, Unforgiven, cut it close to the mark and barely arrived in time for their own
sound check, and unfortunately due to delays I didn't get to hear Paradox sound check either. I want to thank Rob for snapping
off a few pics for me during what I missed; it was good of him to do that.
We had only been backstage for about 15
mins when we came out and saw that there were close to 200 people in the venue. We believe at its high point during Paradox's
performance, the capacity reached nearly 300 people! Here’s the night's play list:
**************************************************************************** Twisted Shoot
The Gun Runaway Steppin’ Stone Dirty Night Under The Influence What’s Up Down And Out Ghost
To You 3 Minutes
**************************************************************************** I
was all over the hall snapping off pictures while Paradox performed, and if you could see how they turned out, you'd understand
why I'm the site manager and not the Paradox photographer! Paradox would like to thank Rob again who photographed sound check
and Rich's wife Julie took some great ones too. For the final number Rich decided to try a slightly different
method of playing the bass, out came the claw hammer and Bang!! He still managed to finish the song and did actually comment
that he didn't expect the bass he was using to last so long! Keep checking the website for the chance to win a signed CD,
runner up prizes of original signed set lists that I stole from the dressing room (I knew that backstage pass would come in
useful heh heh).
Long time fans of the band may have recognized
the ill-fated bass guitar...former Paradox bassist Sproz donated it for the cause. Keep an eye out soon, as the bass is being
auctioned off on the official Paradox website. The band will sign it and all profits will go to the benefit of those suffering
with Cystic Fibrosis. Another thing to keep an eye out for is a contest coming soon where you can win one of the original
set lists used on the night signed by the band.
I just want to take this opportunity
to say that I help out because I love the music and want to see that record contract signed sealed and delivered, and I want
to see it soon! Things are really coming together with Paradox now, they sound great and the camaraderie in the group is fantastic.
I think I can speak for everyone that has been involved that we are proud to be a part of it...big things are coming I can
feel it! Keep doing what your doing, not for the money or fleeting fame, but because you love and enjoy it!
Big thanks go out to Paradox's manager,
Mandy, who through unfortunate circumstances couldn't be there this time. She has been hard at work promoting the guys in
America and in the UK. (there's some talk about a gig in Soho but I can't tell just yet as it needs to be confirmed). Thanks
to Julie, Karla,...... for running the Merchandise stand, which was pretty much stripped bare before the band even got on
stage.
Julie and Rich spent most of the day before
putting all the T-shirts together and getting the EP ready for the fans. Thanks to Rob for supervising the filming and I cant
wait to see the finished video. Please don't forget my clips! (Wink wink). Thank you to Dave of Sioux Promotions, who always
works hard putting the rock nights at Leas together and who has always been a big help to the Paradox.
Of course my personal special thanks to
the guys for letting me spend the day with them, it was great and I really enjoyed it. I might as well add that after being
your biggest and oldest fan, it's about damn time! ****************************************************************************
